It’s very much a sequel to the original movie, with Peter Keyes (Gary Busey) connecting the dots for detective Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover) and expanding on the events of Predator and what humans have learned about the dangerous spacefaring warriors over ten years. However, it quickly helps sell the chaotic and blood-soaked version of Los Angeles the movie wants to play with. The decision to set the movie seven years into the future instead of 1990 is strange, as everything looks and feels one-hundred percent early 90s. Predator 2 ditched the jungle setting of the original movie for the concrete jungle of a twisted vision of Los Angeles seven years into the future (1997) there’s a huge heat wave and crime is running rampant – the perfect destination for our favorite hunters from outer space. Cast: Danny Glover, Gary Busey, Bill Paxton.Two separate puppets were created for the Alien Queen, a 4.8 meter practical version which required 12 puppeteers to operate, and a 1.2 meter puppet. The hydraulic puppet was used in six shots in Alien vs Predator, including the main alien-predator fight sequence. It required six people to operate it, three for the head and body, two for the arms and another person making sure the signals reached the computer. A full hydraulic alien puppet was created so movements could be made faster and give the alien a sleek appearance.
They were made from clay which was used to form molds in order to create fibreglass copies, and then they were painted. Worse still, there seem to be CGI shots that would have been far more effective with practical effects.Still, Prey is easily the best Predator movie in years. It will date horribly and, in some cases, already looks bad. I am also in love with the idea of pulling an Assassin's Creed with the Predator series, setting each one in a completely different period in history.But I have a few minor notes.Mainly around the CGI. Prey is also a beautifully shot movie, set in a landscape that feels a little different from what's come before. Prey is a very good movie with many great elements.I love the recurring motifs, the way it plays with the relationship between predators and prey.
